“It was just odd”- When Edge expressed his dissatisfaction towards the Wrestlemania 34 dream match
Edge was not thrilled about John Cena Vs. The Undertaker at Mania'34.
WWE Hall of Famer Edge is currently the leader of The Judgement Day faction running all over Monday Night Raw. He’s reached to a completely dark place since he began feuding with AJ Styles around Wrestlemania. He holds a vision to attain the mountains of omnipotence.
If we set the clock a bit back in time around 2018 and that too in the month of April, we can easily recall that so-called dream match that took place at Wrestlemania 34 between The Undertaker and John Cena. Although not officially announced in the lead-up weeks to Mania by WWE, this match actually happened only to be a squash contest which Taker easily won after decimating Cena in under 3 minutes (2:45 seconds to be precise).
The way this match was booked disappointed a lot of fans. Not only the WWE Universe was confused about why that match went like the way it did, Edge also expressed his discontent towards it calling it a missed opportunity to deliver a dream match.
He spoke to E&C’s Pod of Awesomeness, and said the following things regarding the match –
“Yeah, even sitting in the crowd, and running to the back. And then, what was it, a five-minute match or something? Was it? “I mean, who knows going into it what limitations there are or anything like that, but, man, there was an opportunity to have a dream match at WrestleMania and it felt lost somehow. I don’t know. It was just odd”.
Majority of the match was all about The Deadman testing his arsenal over John Cena and executing his moves one by one on him, meanwhile Cena wasn’t able to do much during the match leaving a Five-Knuckle shuffle while Taker was down. Finally, the Cenation Leader was put to rest when Undertaker pinned him by his patent maneuver, the Tombstone Piledriver.
Edge holds a rich history with both John Cena and The Undertaker
Edge is undoubtedly one of the most successful wrestlers on the entire planet. He’s also said to be a ‘belt-collector’ in WWE as he has won 31 Championships in all including the World Heavyweight Title 7 times, the WWE Championship 4 times, the prestigious International Championship 5 times, the US Title one and the World Tag Team Championship for a record of 12 times.
Not only this, Edge has also been a part of some of the greatest rivalries in the history of WWE. Some of the most memorable matches he had in his long illustrious career came from Summerslam 2006 where he defeated John Cena to retain the World Heavyweight Championship after hitting Cena’s head with Brass Knuckles.
Also, he faced The Undertaker at Wrestlemania 24 in a highly competitive matchup with his World Heavyweight Championship on the line. Although unlike in 2006, he lost this match to the Deadman after getting hit with the Tombstone Piledriver. This win ensured that The Undertaker’s Wrestlemania undefeated streak was still alive.
