WWE was recently purchased by Endeavor, which is looking to merge WWE and UFC into a large publicly traded company. Amidst this merger, controversy arose surrounding Vince McMahon.
Vince McMahon retired from the WWE last year, making his daughter Stephanie McMahon and Nick Khan co-CEOs of the company. The creative side of WWE was overlooked by Triple H after Vince retired. However, Vince seems to have returned to WWE once again amidst the controversy, and the new buyers, Endeavor, have decided not to address the allegations.
Last year, multiple allegations were made against Vince for using company funds to pay millions to multiple women to cover up incidents of sexual assault and infidelity. After these allegations surfaced, Vince stepped down as the chairman of the company. Due to the controversy, Vince was required to step away from the merger. However, Endeavor CEO Ari Emanuel revealed that he personally insisted Vince to step back into the company.
Emanuel said this in an interview: “I would have bodyslammed him if he thought he thought he was going to leave,” Emanuel said. “Here’s a man who has seen around the corner at every beat over the last 40 years of this business and has a vision of this business way before a lot of people see it. Him now being able to utilize what we’ve built in our flywheel, I’m the luckiest guy in the world.”
Endeavor has put a lot of money into the merger with WWE. According to recent reports, they are fully aware of the controversies surrounding Vince McMahon. However, they are not going to address the situation and ruin their multibillion-dollar deal. Now that Vince is fully back in control of WWE, Endeavor is looking to fully trust his decision-making. Fans, on the other hand, have not taken kindly to the news of Vince McMahon returning. The hashtag #FireVince has been spreading like wildfire.
Vince McMahon’s involvement with the creative aspect of WWE was evident from this week’s RAW. Reports indicate that a lot of last-minute changes came directly from Vince himself. The morale in the workplace was apparently low, and people weren’t happy that things went back to the same way as they were before Triple H took over.
Vince McMahon responds to the allegations made against him
On April 3, Vince McMahon appeared on CNBC’s Squawk In The Box, where he publicly addressed the allegations. When asked whether WWE would still be on sale if the allegations hadn’t surfaced. Vince responded by saying that it would have depended on business factors. He further casually dismissed the allegations of sexual assault and other scandals made against him.
He said this in the interview: “Let me just say that I‘ve made mistakes, obviously [laughs], both personally and professionally through my 50-year career. I’ve owned up to every single one of them, and then moved on. I’m not sure — the legacy stuff.”
It doesn’t seem like Vince is going to face any serious repercussions for his actions. These allegations don’t come off as a surprise, as Vince McMahon was notorious for involving himself in scandalous and sexual storylines. What do you think? Will Vince’s return to WWE ruin the creative aspects of RAW?
