For the past few months, WWE has rarely ever thrown in a random match to fill out the match card for a PLE. So it didn’t make any sense to add a completely random match, out of nowhere, between Seth Rollins and The Nigerian Giant, Omos.

The two superstars are now booked to face each other in a singles bout at the upcoming PLE, Backlash. This announcement was made on the 21st April edition of SmackDown. Prior to this announcement, the two superstars have never come face to face, except for a brief encounter last year. Therefore, fans were shocked to see a completely random match thrown in just two weeks before the event.

Omos is fresh off a defeat at the hands of Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 39. Omos had terrorized The Beast, for weeks, prior to their showdown at The Show of Shows. However, during their match, The Nigerian Giant came up short as he failed to put down Lesnar.

Seth Rollins on the other hand, was victorious in his match at WrestleMania against “The Maverick” Logan Paul. Following his victory, Rollins gave another stellar performance against The Miz on the 17th April edition of Monday Night RAW. Fans were wondering what would be next for The Visionary, after his back-to-back wins in the past few weeks. And to answer their question, WWE booked Rollins to take on Omos at Backlash.

Seth Rollins vs. Omos would have made for a pretty interesting match had there been any backstory prior to the match announcement. Fans felt little to no excitement after hearing the announcement of the match. For many, it felt like WWE is throwing in random matches to fill in the match card. As WrestleMania bought an end to many rivalries, new ones didn’t have enough time to develop yet.

With two more weeks of RAW left before Backlash, there is still time to form some kind of rivalry between Omos and Seth Rollins. Either way, it’s not possible to generate much hype for this match, which will probably end up being the opening match or the lower-mid card anyways.
