The WrestleMania match for the Intercontinental title seems to be still unclear, despite there being a #1 contender’s match on last night’s SmackDown. The Fatal-Five way match on Friday ended in a controversial manner, with both Drew McIntyre and Sheamus coming out on top.

LA Knight, Xavier Woods, Karrion Kross, Sheamus, and Drew McIntyre competed in a Fatal Five-Way match on the latest episode of SmackDown to determine the challenger for Gunther at the Show of Shows. However, in the end, instead of one man standing tall, there were two. Both Sheamus and McIntyre pinned Woods and Knight at the same time to end the match in an indecisive manner.

Later in the show, the champion himself, Gunther, settles things with Adam Pearce. The Intercontinental Champion makes it clear that he will defend his title against a single competitor, not both of them. Consequently, Pearce announced that next week the former allies, Sheamus and Drew McIntyre, will compete in a one-on-one match to determine the true challenger for the IC title.

There were reports earlier that state the current plans might be for Gunther to defend his title in a triple-threat match at the Grandest Stage of Them All. Hence, a double winner here seems to be the way around it. Moreover, a similar result could be expected next week where there could be no clear winner out of the two brutes. It will be interesting to see how Gunther will react if a three-way match is indeed booked despite his resistance.

The fans are eagerly waiting for the match between former friends next week, which should steal the show. This week, however, some fans were equally impressed with the way WWE is booking its way to a triple-threat match. Some fans even called this a double-pin finish last week.

The Twitter account of WWE on BT Sport shared the gif of Drew McIntyre and Sheamus both getting their hands raised at the end of the match with the caption, “Wait! What just happened?!” The fans, on the other hand, took the ending in good spirits and await the official announcement of the WrestleMania match. Here are some of the reactions from Twitter.
