The Wrestling Community was shaken up when Tony Khan’s AEW finally got CM Punk into a wrestling contract. He made a massive return in front of Chicago’s crowd and uplifted AEW through several rivalries that eventually got him the AEW Championship. However, the tides soon turned for the worse as the partnership got into a controversial conflict, and Punk’s contract was thus terminated in September 2023.

What remains noteworthy is how that conflict ended up becoming the second most voted rivalry in recent polls by PWI for ‘Feud of the Year.’ The voting normally spans to feuds that happen on-screen, or inside the squared circle but in the concerned feud, nothing of this nature took place.

The involvement of different characters ranging from the Head of the Company to the Second City Saint, along with other stars has indeed laid a serious challenge to storylines across the promotions. The feud had different colors of action, from backstage brawls to high-profile press conference confrontations.

It seems even the emotional appeal of ‘finishing the story’ seemed lackluster against the gritty altercations and speculations surrounding AEW vs Punk. All in all, though it remains infamous for the lows it saw, it was a one-of-a-kind feud that could’ve made it to the top of the charts had it not been for Sami Zayn’s genius antics against the formidable stable, The Bloodline of WWE.

Wrestling fans reactions to the wild decision of PWI’s poll for ‘Feud of the Year’

CM Punk did the unthinkable when he returned to WWE at Survivor Series 2023. However, he did leave his former employer on a sour note. It seems the memories of the feud once again surfaced after PWI’s results for the ‘Feud of the Year’ Poll went viral. Here’s how the wrestling community reacted:

Looking at the comments, it seems the WWE and AEW fans are divided on the AEW vs Punk saga. While the former made fun of the incident, the latter were busy calling out the polls as biased and derogatory.

On the other hand, fans praised Punk’s desire to finally bury the hatchet with WWE. There was also a visible reaction from other superstars. One of them was Randy Orton who was reportedly upset at WWE spoiling his return for the sake of the Second City Saint.

The “all smiles” attitude of the ‘Best in the World’ has become a new target for the enraged Scottish Warrior, Drew McIntyre. For weeks, McIntyre has been seen ranting around the hypocritical and evil entity that Punk is and even wishes to settle the score inside the ring.
