WWE has been no stranger to controversy over the course of its history. Last year, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon faced multiple allegations and lawsuits, following which he eventually announced his retirement. However, he came back from retirement and returned to the same position earlier this year. Furthermore, WWE has faced massive backlash from different communities around the world regarding many controversial storylines. The company is reportedly facing lawsuits after a complaint by a former writer.

Recently, Bloomberg Law broke the news that a former WWE employee had sued WWE over allegations of racist scripts. As per the news, former WWE writer Britney Abrahams accused the company of using racist and gender-based stereotypes in some of their past scripts.

Britney complained that WWE creatives forced Bianca Belair to say stuff like, “Uh-Uh! Don’t make me take off my earrings and beat your a*s!”. Furthermore, she also accused WWE of forcing Apollo Crews to speak with an exaggerated Nigerian accent due to his Nigerian lineage.

The plaintiff, Britney Abrahams, also e-mailed the WWE EVP, Ryan Callahan, to take back the forced gimmick. However, despite the complaint, Vince McMahon and WWE went ahead with the script and forced Apollo to follow it. Another dreadful claim made by the plaintiff was that WWE asked a Muslim wrestler to disclose that he was behind the 9/11 attacks. 

A former WWE employee, who began working for WWE in 2020 as a writer, made all these claims. She also revealed that she kept on opposing such racial, gender-based, and religion-based pitches for scripts throughout her tenure. However, WWE didn’t take her complaints so kindly, and she was fired in April 2022.

The accusations made by Britney Abrahams against the WWE are very bold, to say the least. According to Bloomberg Law’s report, “she is seeking reinstatement, damages, declaratory judgment, and an injunction restraining defendants from engaging in such unlawful conduct”.

Therefore, the shocking lawsuit by Britney surely promises to damage the reputation of the company and Vince McMahon. Moreover, WWE has used many controversial issues in their storylines in the past that people found offensive. However, unlike then, this time the company is sued for such conduct by one of their own former employees.
