Kevin Owens, the former WWE US Champion, stirred controversy on the WWE Friday Night Smackdown New Year’s Revolution episode by attacking the current champion, Logan Paul. This action triggered accusations of jealousy and a potential threat from Smackdown Superstar Grayson Waller.
Waller didn’t hold back by being blunt on X, calling Owens’ actions unprovoked and unprofessional. The 33-year-old superstar found Kevin’s behavior disgusting and issued a clear warning, stating that he is siding with Paul and coming after the Prizefighter.
Owens won the United States Title tournament by defeating Santos Escobar during the Smackdown New Year’s Resolution episode. The return of Logan Paul at the guest commentary table added more drama. After KO’s victory, Paul entered the ring, making controversial comments about the crowd and Owens. However, before he could fully enter the ring, the former NXT Champion knocked him out with his hand cast.
After the segment, Paul was rushed backstage for a check-up, accompanied by Waller and former United States Champion Austin Theory. Fans speculated about a potential faction forming among these superstars in the near future.
KO will be facing Paul for the United States Championship at Royal Rumble 2024 in St. Petersburg. The clash could see Waller and Theory disrupting Kevin’s momentum, eventually solidifying their rivalry for Mania.
Potential plans for Kevin Owens after Royal Rumble
There’s no denying that the Prizefighter has been WWE’s man to go for, headlining the last two WrestleMania events. The company even trusted him to go against the returning Stone Cold Steve Austin at WrestleMania 38. However, currently, there are no clear plans for KO at WrestleMania.
WWE may be steadily building up towards the rivalry between Kevin Owens and the team of Grayson Waller and Austin Theory. We could possibly be seeing a potential tag team match at WrestleMania or even at Elimination Chamber.
The Prizefighter may require some assistance in the form of a tag team partner. After all, this leaves the door open for WWE to get some legends for a one-time match for the fans. The most logical pick would be The Rock, as Waller and Theory both took shots at him via X. However, with The Rock’s involvement in the Bloodline story, fans should expect someone else to show up to help KO.
Fans could expect Hall of Famer Kurt Angle to be a potential partner for the former WWE Universal Champion. In fact, Angle recently clarified that he is open to a potential WrestleMania or Royal Rumble plan with WWE.
