After recovering from an injury recently, Grayson Waller made his SmackDown in-ring debut this week. He invited Edge to The Grayson Waller Effect. The Rated-R Superstar took a moment to acknowledge the raucous MSG crowd. He thanked everyone for supporting him in his journey, which completed 25 years last week. Seemingly fed up with that crowd engagement, Waller decided to play spoilsport.

He teased that Edge might be retiring soon. Well, despite the fact that Edge doesn’t have much time left in this business, he said he’s not retiring immediately. In fact, the WWE legend said that he’s going to wrestle Waller on the show. They received the penultimate spot on the card and delivered an incredible match.

Their match went exactly as it was supposed to. Grayson Waller was near perfect for his debut match. During the closing moments, Waller ate a mid-air spear from Edge while attempting his own finisher. The WWE Hall of Famer emerged victorious, and he put over the Sydney-born wrestler by uttering, “Waller, you swam.”

That three-word embrace from Edge would do wonders for the 33-year-old. He looked like a star last night, and big things are lined-up in his immediate future. WRKD Wrestling tweeted out that the management is quite high on the former NXT superstar, and he is expected to crack the main-event scene soon.

Is Grayson Waller going to compete at SummerSlam?

Before tonight, many fans believed that Waller vs. Edge could be a SummerSlam match. However, WWE decided to throw it away on television. It is worth noting that, due to being at Madison Square Garden, last night’s show wasn’t the usual one. WWE considers all of their MSG shows significant and bigger than weekly tapings elsewhere.

That being said, it now leaves Edge with an unassigned opponent at The Biggest Party of the Summer. Presumably, he’s going to compete in Detroit next month. Considering he’s already slugged it out with The Moment Maker this week, WWE would be smart to avoid repeating their showdown at Ford Field.

If not a rematch against Edge, LA Knight seems like a pretty great option for Waller. The self-proclaimed Megastar has been on a red-hot run as of late. Despite being a victim of dismal booking, Knight has grown immensely in the WWE Universe. If booked properly, Knight & Waller can deliver a great match.
