Back in 2005, At No Way Out, John Cena reached the finals of the tournament organized for the determination of the no. 1 contender for the WWE Championship. At the finals, Cena defeated Kurt Angle and secured a spot in the SmackDown brand’s WrestleMania 21 main event match.

This started a feud with the then-champion John “Bradshaw” Layfield and his Cabinet. On the March 3 edition of SmackDown, JBL intervened and attacked Cena with his title belt, causing Cena to lose the US Championship to Cabinet member Orlando Jordan in the early phases of the feud. John Cena defeated JBL at WrestleMania 21 to win the WWE Championship for the first time in his career.

Former WWE Champion and WWE Hall of Famer JBL revealed on “Busted Open Radio” why certain fans began to dislike and boo Cena while he was the top WWE babyface. JBL stated that Cena was simply too excellent, producing tremendous bouts with incredible promos. JBL said that Cena would enter the ring and have the audience chant in his favor or against him. JBLsaid people disliked Cena because of his attitude, and it was also a significant shift from the beer drinking and swearing of The Rock and Steve Austin during the attitude period, which people certainly loved.

“I think it was because he was just too good,” JBL said. “He’s this good-looking guy, he’s got this great body, he puts out great matches, and he has incredible promos … Cena would go out there and he had the entire crowd chanting either ‘Let’s Go Cena’, or ‘Cena sucks’. By the time he’s five minutes into that promo, everybody is into whatever he’s saying … I think people just disliked him, for one, they couldn’t control it, and two, it was a great departure from the beer-drinking, middle finger, and the cussing from The Rock and Stone Cold in the Attitude Era.”

John Cena recently completed 20 years in the WWE and appeared on the June 27th edition of RAW, where he thanked the WWE Universe for supporting him throughout the years and also said that he isn’t done with wrestling but is unsure of when he would wrestle again.
