“I WON The match of my Life” Jerry Lawler remembers a near-death experience on RAW
Jerry Lawler is one of the top names in WWE when it comes to commentary. The seasoned commentator has been doing commentary since 2001 for the company and his team with Jim Ross and later Micheal Cole have been popular among the masses. However, before beginning his role as a commentator Jerry Lawler was a professional wrestler as well with the company and holds significant experience in the squared circle.
Lawler throughout his career has been involved in various storylines and even wore his wrestling boots again in 2012 to ignite one of the most interesting feuds in history with Michael Cole. After a long series of matches, Lawler won the Kiss My Foot Match to end his feud with Cole. But just after his feud ended with Cole, he was put in a tag team match with Randy Orton against Dolph Ziggler and CM Punk.
Jerry Lawler remembers the moment when he suffered a heart attack live on RAW
As soon as Lawler returned to the announcer’s table to continue the commentary he collapsed at the ringside. Remembering the horrific incident Lawler took to Twitter to remind people about the incident and wrote- ” 10 years ago today on @WWE RAW from Montreal/Quebec Canada, @RandyOrton and I defeated @CMPunk and @HEELZiggler Then, right after that, I won the match of my life, when I defeated DEATH! After a cardiac arrest, my heart did not beat for 22 minutes! Thank you @DocSampson13″.
Lawler thanked WWE doctors for immediate attention to him as he was clinically dead for 22 minutes and could’ve been dead had immediate medical assistance would not be provided to Lawler. It was later revealed that Jerry Lawler had a heart attack on RAW and it wasn’t due to a blocked artery but an unexpected cardiac arrest.
Many were thinking if the whole situation was a work but Michael Cole later clarified the situation on television in one of the most infamous character breaks in WWE that “this was not a part of entertainment” and Lawler was continuously receiving medical treatment backstage. By the end of the show, it was clarified that Lawler was able to breathe on his own and respond to simulations as well.
Lawler returned to commentary on November 12, 2012 and was warmly received by the fans. Though Lawler has been missing from commentary since April 2020, fans would surely want him back at the announcer’s table.
