“I was speaking from a point of selfish ignorance”- When John Cena revealed that his judgement about Dwayne Johnson’s Hollywood transition was incorrect
John Cena and The Rock
John Cena and Dwayne Johnson are two of the biggest mainstream draws in today’s world and rightfully so. The two men were true trailblazers during their prime in WWE and now they’re blooming in their Hollywood commitments as well. Having being earned the right to get themselves a phrase of “Larger than life” personalities, the two men share supreme level of respect for one another both inside and outside of the squared circle. John Cena have himself called Dwayne as one of his best opponents ever and it felt like a honour to share the ring with him.
Few years ago, John Cena questioned about The Brahma Bull’s dedication towards professional wrestling when he called him out for leaving WWE midway high and dry to value over his career in the Hollywood. Well, this statement was enough to spark off controversies between the two parties but it didn’t went a long way as John soon realised that it wasn’t any sort of lack in commitment towards WWE saying he blazed a trail but Cena wasn’t able to understand that. John also accepted that he coined all of those remarks as part of his selfish ignorance.
“I’ve told Dwayne Johnson that when I called him out for a lack of love for WWE, I was wrong. I was ignorant. He loves WWE, but he goes from shooting one project to the next. He blazed a trail and I didn’t understand that, but now I totally understand,” John shared and added, “I was wrong. It led to a good piece of business in WWE [at WrestleMania 28 and 29], but I was speaking from a point of selfish ignorance.”
John Cena and The Rock main-evented Wrestlemania 28 and 29
What it can be termed as one of the biggest battles in the history of entire wrestling industry, John Cena and Rock blessed the ring on two different occasions but being on consecutive years back at Wrestlemania 28 and 29. At The Showcase of the Immortals in the year 2012, Cena vs. Rock was built up as “once in a lifetime” battle and when they get into that ring, it truly felt that way too.
However, in rage of taunting The Great One, John Cena paid the price and lost the dream bout after The Rock Bottom. Very next year, both men battled it out for the WWE Championship to another big fight feel but the result was different this time around as Cena took the big win at New Jersey in 2013.
