Kacy Catanzaro and Kayden Carter became the longest-reigning NXT women’s tag team champions on Sunday. Previously, the record was held by the Toxic Attraction (Jacy Jayne and Gigi Dolin), who held the title for 158 days. The current champions started their reign on the August 2nd episode of NXT 2.0.
Recently, one-half of the tag team champions, Kacy Catanzaro posted a photo of herself with her partner, Kayden Carter, on Twitter. The tweet with the photo read, “Woke up today as THE LONGEST REIGNING NXT WOMEN’S TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS. Feeling extremely grateful. 159 days and counting..”
Kacy Catanzaro, aka Katana Chance, had her first televised match at the Mae Young Classic in September 2017. She also competed at the 2019 Royal Rumble, entering the match at number 19. A couple of months later, in March, she made her NXT debut, but soon after, she disappeared from TV screens. Reports came out in September that Catanzaro had left the company and retired from pro wrestling.
Amidst all these rumors, fans were surprised when Catanzaro made a return at the NXT women’s battle royale on January 15, 2020. In an emotional interview with WWE, she revealed that she was having doubts about continuing her pro wrestling career. The fans also got to know more about her past as an American Ninja Warrior contestant and her passion for gymnastics.

The partnership of Kacy Catanzaro and Kayden Carter
Catanzaro formed a tag team with Kayden Carter in September 2020. Both of them took part in the women’s Dusty Rhodes tag team classic the following year but got eliminated in the semifinal round. In NXT 2.0, Kacy Catanzaro was renamed Katana Chance. On August 2, 2022, Chance and Carter won the vacant NXT women’s tag titles. They defeated the teams of Ivy Nile and Tatum Paxley, Toxic Attraction, and Valentina Feroz and Yulisa Leo in a fatal four-way match.
Their most high-profile match as champions was at NXT Worlds Collide in September. They defeated the team of Doudrop and Nikki ASH at the event to retain their title. They had a brief feud with Nikita Lyons and Zoey Stark following that. Chance and Carter had their last title defense against Nile & Paxley and Toxic Attraction (Gigi Dolin & Jacy Jayne) in a triple-threat match.
The champions don’t have a match announced for this week’s special episode of NXT: New Year’s Evil. There is not much depth in the tag team division, though. So, a feud between Toxic Attraction and Kacy Catanzaro, and Kayden Carter could be expected. Jakara Jackson and Lash Legend are also top contenders for the title moving forward.
