“You could tell that John had not cut a promo in a while”- WWE Hall of Famer points out a flaw in John Cena’s 20th Anniversary return promo

John Cena on Raw

John Cena is one of the greatest WWE superstars of all time having a mammoth record of holding World Titles on 16 different occasions. He’s headlined multiple Wrestlemania events including two of them with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Cena’s legacy extends decades long and many even believed that they came to know something called WWE just because of him. John had one of the most iconic debuts of all time when he barked “Ruthless Aggression” in the face of Kurt Angle and slapped the hell outta him back on the June 27th, 2002 episode of Smackdown.

Cena recently celebrated his 20th WWE debut Anniversary two weeks ago on Monday Night Raw in a sold out Sames Auto Arena in Laredo, Texas. Vince McMahon came out to introduce the Franchise Player in front of the jampacked crowd which gave a thunderous reaction to his entrance all way down to the ring. After grabbing the microphone, Cena gleefully thanked the fans who allowed him to perform in front of them over the years and also acknowledged them for making the kind of man he is today. He also said that anything Cena does in that ring is not just for him rather it’s all of us (referring to the entire WWE Universe).

Commenting on when fans will see Cena compete once again in the ring, he although didn’t gave a particular date but assured them that it won’t be just for a single time confirming he will have multiple matches in the time to come hearing to which the crowd was elated. He ended his emotional promo while reciting his catchphrase – “You want some? Come get some”.

Analysing on this promo the 16-time World Champion delivered weeks ago, WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash found something missing in the talk as he said that “You could tell John had not cut a promo in a while”. Nash named John Cena as one among his Top 5 promo guys but admitted that his 20th Anniversary promo wasn’t the best he had heard from The Franchise Player in the very first episode of his new podcast named as “Kliq This”.

“He cut a promo and one of the things that I’ll say for John is [that he’s] probably top-five promo guy of all time. To me cutting a promo is like playing golf. You could tell that John had not cut a promo in a while. He was still solid, but it didn’t have the same, y’know.”

WWE initially considered doing John Cena vs. Theory at Summerslam at one point but seemingly those plans have been dropped for the moment as the legendary superstar is no longer expected to show up on the WWE television anytime soon.

John Cena had several encounters with superstars including Ezekiel, The Street Profits, Omos and MVP, Seth Rollins and Theory in his Raw return.
