Despite being on the precipice of a major coup on this week’s SmackDown, Kevin Owens didn’t want to wait until Friday. Instead, he showed up on last night’s NXT: New Year’s Evil to cost Grayson Waller. As known, the latter was brought in as a last-minute replacement for a match against Trick Williams, as his title bout against Ilja Dragunov was scrapped.
That engendered Trick Williams to up the ante and raise the stakes a bit higher in his rescheduled showdown against Grayson Waller. Having said that, Trick’s NXT title shot was up for grabs. However, he did not fumble it, thanks to Kevin Owens. The Prizefighter appeared out of nowhere and punched Waller right in the face. That saw the Australian wrestler hobbling around, only to end up being hit by a knee strike, courtesy of Williams.

And that’s how Grayson Waller’s halcyon period came to a close on NXT. After being questioned about his actions during an exclusive interview, Owens exuded vengeance. He reminded everyone how Grayson Waller and Austin Theory broke his hand a few weeks ago on SmackDown. So, in order to school The Aussie Icon, Owens picked his spot and cost him an opportunity that could’ve made him the NXT Champion.
Ever since getting traded to the blue brand, Owens has had some issues with Waller and Theory. With 2023 on the back-burner, the former Universal Champion would like to move onto bigger things and get back to winning ways as soon as he can.
Kevin Owens has a major showdown on this week’s SmackDown
In the ongoing tournament to determine Logan Paul‘s first challenger for the US title, only two names are left. This Friday on SmackDown, Kevin Owens will take on Santos Escobar in the final hurdle. The winner gets to have a crack at The Maverick’s gold at the Royal Rumble. More or less, it’s The Prizefighter who’s believed to be the one vying for Logan.

If he does beat Escobar this week, it would be the first major opportunity for Kevin Owens to get something in his account this year. However, with what he did last night at NXT, there might be a twist in the tale for him.
Grayson Waller would be gunning for revenge, and it could lead to the braggadocious Aussie precluding Kevin Owens. Whatever it might be, things are expected to escalate on the blue brand as SmackDown presents a special New Year’s Revolution edition in a matter of days.
