When Cody Rhodes announced his departure from AEW in February 2022, the wrestling universe was shaken. This was because Rhodes was one of the founding members of the company. Rhodes’ popularity was at an all-time high before he returned to WWE at WrestleMania. It has only gotten bigger ever since. Kevin Owens revealed that Vince McMahon personally flew out to Cody’s house to bring him to his company.
A trailer was recently released for the documentary featuring Cody Rhodes by WWE and Peacock. In the trailer, there was a moment where Kevin Owens revealed an interesting thing. He said that in order to sign Cody Rhodes to WWE, Vince McMahon personally flew to Rhodes’ house in Atlanta, Georgia. Vince desperately wanted to bring The American Nightmare to WWE. Owens also added, “Not many people can say they did that.”
His trip turned out to be successful, as Rhodes returned to WWE at WrestleMania 38 to a thunderous reaction. Fans were shocked to see Rhodes in WWE, as he had left six years ago due to non-creative ideas for his character and storylines. After leaving in 2016, Cody made his name on the independent circuit and at companies like Impact and NJPW.
In 2018, Rhodes announced that he was starting a company with The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega called All Elite Wrestling. However, Rhodes decided not to renew his contract in 2022 and decided to return to his former promotion and become the biggest baby face in the recent history of WWE.
