Marvel Franchise’s Director REGRETS using John Cena joke in a film after Twitter users lash him out

John Cena is one of the most popular superstars in WWE history. Cena’s mass appeal is probably greater than any other superstar because he is loved by both kids and adults alike. Cena’s catchphrases are very popular among people such as – “Hustle, Loyalty, Respect”, “Never Give Up” and “You Can’t See Me“.
The third phrase is quite a funny one and has transcended into a meme in popular culture as well. The phrase is often used to troll John Cena in a funny way and users often comment about Cena’s invisibility potion.

James Gunn Regrets using John Cena’s Invisibility Joke in Guardians of The Galaxy

But, the popular joke didn’t limit itself to the Internet and has also been used in movies as well. Marvel’s hit franchise Guardian of The Galaxy’s Vol-2 featured former WWE Superstar Batista, who plays the role of Drax in the franchise, also had a joke that referenced Cena’s You Can’t See Me.
While, the joke was meant to be a light-hearted humour it seems that it has not aged well with the film’s director James Gunn. Gunn is often known for using pop-culture references as an element of humour in his films, but the Cenation dragged Gunn out when they heard that their favourite superstar is made fun of.
As, Guardians of Galaxy Vol. 3 is scheduled to release May 5, 2023, a Twitter user dragged Gunn to remind him not to push forward the joke on Cena’s invisibility in Vol. 3.
A Twitter user named David Riley tweeted – “Dear @JamesGunn, Please, I hope you remember to pay forward an invisible Drax moment. Thank you in advance.”
To which Gunn replied- “Between the daily barrage of repetitive invisible jokes about John Cena in addition the the ones about Dave, I almost regret making the joke in the first place.”
It seems pretty clear that Gunn has learnt the lesson the hard way and regrets putting the joke in the movie, but another point of view also states that fans shouldn’t be over sensitive about their favourite stars as well.
The Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3 is all set to hit theaters in May, 2023 and the Marvel fans are pretty excited for it as Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper return for the voices of Groot and Rocket respectively.
John Cena has also entered the superhero space with the DC Universe’s Peacemaker and is currently busy shooting for its second season which is scheduled to come out in 2023 as well.
