The famed Royal Rumble matches are known for fans in arenas going bonkers at various junctures. However, WWE had a problem engendering some boisterous pops this year. And one of their former names, Matt Cardona, fka Zack Ryder, has reacted to it. An account on X named Wrestle Features was the first to underscore the aforementioned issue.
It affirmed that the promotion wasn’t able to achieve the desired fan reactions due to the prevailing generic themes they have for their superstars. In his response, Matt Cardona said that the arena would’ve blown the roof off had his old theme song been played there. He was previously rumored to show up during the men’s Royal Rumble match.
However, apart from names returning from injury like Sami Zayn, the fans were deprived of any surprise entrants. Even though WWE did update their history books by crowning Cody Rhodes as the winner, the fans preferred the women’s showcase. On their side of things, Jade Cargill’s debut highlighted an enjoyable Rumble match that was won by Bayley.

The WWE Universe in attendance was slightly louder for the women than their male counterparts. But they couldn’t break the ice for most of the female superstars as well coming out to their banal battle hymns. Many fans believe that the ouster of ex-WWE music composer Jim Johnston is haunting the company to this date.
The said duties were assumed by New York-based music production group def rebel, in early 2019. They’re the culprit and a major cause of discord, according to the WWE Universe. Despite a much-improved on-screen product, the higher-ups do need to turn a new leaf on their wrestler’s entrance themes.
Did WWE create any sort of record at the Royal Rumble?
This year’s Royal Rumble pretty much maintained a clean slate. The creative decisions didn’t upset the fans, and the show closed with Cody Rhodes conspicuously picking Roman Reigns as his WrestleMania opponent. In a major coup for WWE, the said PLE was the company’s highest-viewed edition in the event’s history.
Internal memos indicated that the PLE also had the largest audience outside of WrestleMania, as claimed by Fightful Select. WWE also announced a cumulative attendance of 48,044 fans. And it shattered the record for Tropicana Field’s event history.
The Royal Rumble also witnessed the debut of Impact Knockouts Champion, Jordynne Grace. Not only that, Michael Cole put some weight on TNA’s name during his commentary. Grace’s presence was potentially the biggest surprise fans had all night.
