Liv Morgan is the talk of the town right now as it was night of double joy for the former Riott Squad member as she won the Money in the Bank match and later successfully cashed in the contract on an injured Ronda Rousey to win her first championship in WWE. Liv Morgan since her childhood had been a major wrestling fan and would often impersonate former WWE Women’s Champion and hall of famer Lita growing up. The New Jersey based wrestler started working for WWE in 2014 when she was signed by the company. Morgan spent three years in NXT developing her skills as a wrestler in the ring and worked on her mic skills as well in the developmental territory.
Liv made her debut along side fellow NXT talents Ruby Soho and Sarah Logan as part of the Riott Sqaud. Liv after her debut on the main roster in 2017 would often find herself in tag team championship picture and also the Women’s Championship picture as well. Liv Morgan along with Logan were part of an Elimination Chamber match which was to determine the inaugural WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion. Later she also got a shot at Becky Lynch’s Women’s Championship after winning a fatal five way match and ended up losing to Lynch.
Liv Morgan has been recently enjoying a steady push in WWE as she qualified for MITB match along with Alexa Bliss. Morgan was associated with veteran like AJ Styles and Balor who helped her develop her game. Morgan also defeated Alexa Bliss on Raw in the build up to Money in the Bank pay per view.
Liv Morgan defeated Ronda Rousey to become Smackdown Women’s Champion
Liv Morgan entered MITB and was involved in some amazing sequences with Morgan hitting a sunset flip powerbomb on Lacey Evans from top of the ladder. Ironically Morgan would hit Becky Lynch with a knee to the face and proceeded to win the coveted briefcase for the first time in her career.
Morgan’s night would get better when she saw an opportunity and cashed her briefcase against the ‘baddest women on the planet’ Ronda Rousey who seemed injured after her match with Natalya. Liv Morgan grabbed the opportunity with both hands pinned Rousey to become Smackdown Women’s Champion for the first time in her WWE career. It was a wholesome moment as an underdog like Morgan has went on and achieved her dream.
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Morgan’s dream might be short lived as she might lose the title to Rousey at Summerslam. Meltzer had this to say :
“Right now the plan is Liv Morgan and Ronda Rousey at SummerSlam, which kind of surprises me in a lot of ways, especially because they didn’t leave with any heat. Ronda just hugged (Morgan), walked out of the ring, and let her have her moment. They’ve been building for this with Liv Morgan for a while. It is interesting though, as I think almost everybody figured it was going to be Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey at SummerSlam, and it’s not.”
WWE have shown a lot of faith in Morgan we will have to wait and see how she goes about defending her title, but for now Liv Morgan is the Smackdown Women’s Champion.
