Stephanie McMahon shockingly announced her resignation as WWE’s co-CEO and Chairwoman earlier this year. The Billion Dollar Princess featured prominently on screen for the better part of the past decade. She abruptly stepped down from her position as soon as Vince McMahon returned to authority. WWE President Nick Khan recently revealed the reason behind Stephanie McMahon’s departure.
During an appearance on Bill Simmons’ podcast The Ringer, he addressed the former Chairwoman’s decision to retire. First, Nick Khan claimed that he respected McMahon’s choice. However, the WWE President wished that she hadn’t done that, stating that the 46-year-old was aware of the same.
“She’s a terrific executive and a terrific person. That’s her decision; her relationship with Vince is theirs, and once she made it, I have total respect for her decision,” Nick Khan further said. The WWE President implicitly revealed that there is a rift between Stephanie and Vince, which propelled her to step down from her position.
The Billion Dollar Princess announced her retirement in January, stating that she intends to focus on her family. Interestingly, it coincided with Vince McMahon’s return, who stepped down last year due to hush-money allegations. McMahon’s return to the Board of Directors might be the reason Stephanie left WWE.
A report from Dave Meltzer indicated friction between the pair. Stephanie McMahon has earned respect in recent years, with wrestlers speaking positively about her backstage attitude. Thus, morale was affected after her departure.
WWE merged with UFC under Endeavor in April, finalized on September 12. Vince McMahon relinquished majority ownership for the first time in almost four decades, with Nick Khan assuming the presidency.
Nick Khan praises John Cena and LA Knight
John Cena has established himself as one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. The sixteen-time World Champion is an influential figure for the WWE. Nick Khan couldn’t agree more, as proven by his latest statements on The Bill Simmons Podcast regarding the Franchise Player.
According to him, no one can replicate Cena’s success. “You get a John Cena, and part of the fun is that we just need to find the next John Cena. There is no next John Cena,” said the President of the company. Furthermore, he pointed out LA Knight’s rise in the promotion as well.
Similar to the comments about the Cenation Leader, Nick praised Knight. “LA Knight is the first LA Knight, and that’s part of why we think that he’s resonating,” he added. Therefore, it shows how much the WWE values the Megastar.
