“I loved that role”; When Paige shared her journey of being Manager of these two WWE divas

Paige as manager

When Paige made her return to WWE in April 2019, she was appointed as the manager of a newly formed tag team of Asuka & Kairi Sane, from the blue brand.

When the former Divas champion was called for an interview with Comic Book, she frankly spoke about what she went through back in 2019 days. She claimed in that interview that she had other plans for being a manager of some other WWE superstar. She had no intentions of being in the ringside as a representative of the Japanese pair. She was approached about the same later and then she took up that responsibility without hesitation.

“I was sad, because I loved that role,” she said about her time as SmackDown’s GM. “I had such a good time with it and it pushed my boundaries a little bit because I had multiple promos in a day and I wasn’t used to that. So it really helped me grow creatively and professionally. But I was excited about another role. I was like, ‘Okay, no worries,’ because I knew the WWE would take care of me. They always do.

Paige had built up her mind to actually manage the then RAW Women’s champion Ronda Rousey. But things didn’t work out well and she ended up managing Asuka and Sane instead.

“I pitched to manage Ronda Rousey, kind of like the Paul Heyman-Brock Lesnar thing,” she continued. “And then also be with Asuka, because Asuka had trouble speaking on the mic sometimes. As much as she’s an amazing athlete, an incredible wrestler, and I was like, ‘I’ll help her, give me the microphone, I’ll talk for her.’ And then Paul Heyman called me one day and said, ‘We have a great role for you. You can be the next me with these two women.’ I was like, ‘Wow, what a crazy tag team, they’re incredible…. Absolutely, I’ll take it!'”

The accolade of being the first NXT Women’s Champion and the youngest-ever Diva’s Champion goes by the name of Paige. But things didn’t go according to her luck as sadly she had to retire from in-ring action in January 2018. Paige came across a career ending neck injury when she was engaged in a WWE live event. She was told that she would never be able to wrestle again as it would be seriously risky for her life. This resulted in the end of her professional wrestling career at just the age of twenty-five.

However, we have seen many wrestlers making reappearances in the company after sustaining deadly injuries as well. So, the fans are keeping across their fingers to see Paige back into the action again!
