After this week’s SmackDown, there has been a lot of buzz around Pete Dunne. WWE repackaged the star in order to pivot to his previous gimmick of the Bruiserweight. Ever since Dunne came back to his old ways, there has been a discussion among the fans regarding his plans for the future. Amid these discussions and speculations, Pete has teased a match against Ring General Gunther.
Dunne posted a picture of himself standing in the ring with Gunther. This picture is from the days of NXT UK before their match-up at NXT Takeover: New York in 2019. It is considered a subtle tease towards having some interest in facing the Ring General for the Intercontinental Championship. With Royal Rumble on the horizon, there is a huge possibility of the two stars going face-to-face with each other in the titular match.
Moreover, another thing that needs to be noted is that Gunther was the one who dethroned Pete Dunne for the NXT UK Championship after his iconic 685-day reign. Therefore, it is possible that it might come full circle if Dunne beats the Ring General for the Intercontinental Championship to end his dominant reign.
Furthermore, the Road to WrestleMania for both Gunther and the Bruiserweight is vague. It will be an ecstatic opportunity for the fans to witness this hard-hitting match at WrestleMania if it happens. Although it is clear that the two stars will collide down the line, however, it doesn’t look anywhere near the road to WrestleMania, as WWE is planning to have Gunther face Brock Lesnar at the Show of Shows.
Pete Dunne’s first reaction after returning back as the Bruiserweight
Pete Dunne made headlines when he returned to SmackDown this week. He has been the talk of the town ever since. He was in a tag team match with Tyler Bate against Pretty Deadly. After a dominant victory, the Bruiserweight posted a message for his fans on X.
Following the events of SmackDown, Dunne took to X to break his silence after his return to his old gimmick. He simply posted a message implying that Bruiserweight is not dead yet. It has generated a ray of hope among his fans for a bright future ahead of him.

The return of the Bruiserweight has certainly added another layer to the character of Pete Dunne. When Dunne debuted on the main roster, he was given the name ‘Butch’ as he joined sides with the Brawling Brutes. Only time will tell where the future of the former UK Champion is headed after a banger return.
