The latest episode of SmackDown may have been the most pivotal in recent times. After a long and enticing opening segment, Randy Orton competed in the main event. The Viper fought Austin Theory in a fun match. During the bout, a spot almost went wrong that could’ve ended horribly for both men.

Orton and Theory were on the top turnbuckle, with the former setting up for his signature suplex. However, the 14-time World Champion accidentally slipped, which led to a normal suplex instead. While Orton stood up instantly after the move, it looked as if the 26-year-old star was the one who saved the spot from going wary.

The former United States Champion seemingly transitioned into a blockbuster. The rest of the match went on as normal, with Orton picking up the win. Despite interference from Grayson Waller, The Apex Predator hit yet another RKO “out of nowhere.” Following the victory, Waller and Theory beat up Orton, who was saved by Kevin Owens.

Interestingly, this wasn’t the first time Theory came close to a life-threatening injury. Almost months ago, he and Carmelo Hayes landed awkwardly after a botched Spanish Fly on SmackDown. Later, Theory subsequently retired the high-risk maneuver from his repertoire.

Will Randy Orton be involved in a multi-man match at WrestleMania?

At Elimination Chamber, Randy Orton’s dreams of becoming a 15-time World Champion at WrestleMania were shattered by Logan Paul. The United States Champion hit the veteran with brass knuckles, costing him the match. The Maverick wasn’t on the latest edition of SmackDown but will appear on next week’s show. Therefore, The Viper will finally come face-to-face with Paul.

Following Elimination Chamber, fans speculated that a multi-man match for the United States Title was the plan for WrestleMania. In addition to Orton, Paul has made enemies out of the likes of Kevin Owens and LA Knight. The latter is also involved in a rivalry with AJ Styles, who may come into the picture. Meanwhile, other top stars such as Bobby Lashley and Karrion Kross are in contention for a shot as well.

Since his return at Survivor Series, Randy Orton has competed in only multi-man encounters at PLEs. According to rumors, this may be WWE’s way of protecting the 14-time World Champion in the ring. Needless to say, it will be interesting to see how Randy’s road to WrestleMania 40 plays out.
