“This is what all the sacrifices are for”, Raquel Gonzalez shares her feelings on name change and roster call-up
Raquel Rodriguez
Raquel Gonzalez, now known as Raquel Rodriguez or just Raquel, recently made her Smackdown debut when she was seen in a segment involving Los Lotharios. The former NXT superstar quickly rose to fame in WWE after her debut teaming up with Dakota Kai and winning the inaugural Womens’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team classic tournament. They later on went to become the first NXT Women’s Tag Team champion only to lose it later to Blackheart and Ember Moon.
Raquel later won her first singles championship in the NXT by defeating Io Shirai, and after her split with Kai, she lost her championship to Mandy rose due to outside interference by Dakota Kai. Later, after some back and forth Dakota and Raquel made up and subsequently won the NXT Women’s Tag Titles from Toxic Attraction and lost the titles back to Toxic Attraction. She was then drafted to SmackDown and made her appearance on the blue brand on 8th April 2022.
In an interview with the Rick Uchhino on the Bleav in Pro-Wrestling podcast, Raquel opened up on her Smackdown debut and her time in NXT:
“This is what I’ve been waiting for. It’s what I’ve worked for. This is what all the sacrifices are for. But I definitely took that moment (getting called-up) and I squashed it right away, because I was like, this doesn’t mean you made it. This doesn’t mean that it’s over. You know what I mean? Like this is where the work begins and this is where you really have to start hustling.”
Raquel Gonzalez reacts to her name change
Raquel Gonzalez debuted on the main roster a week after Wrestlemania 38 in a backstage segment as just Raquel and in an interview with Comic Book, she opened up on her name change:
“I didn’t know what the change was going to be but I was open to any changes that were going to happen because I’ve seen from the past call ups and other people who have been on RAW and SmackDown from NXT, how things have changed for them or those who have kind of stayed the same. But honestly, it’s not something that I was phased by too much. It’s a last name, it’s Rodriguez and I joked with Rhea because she was there last Friday, that now both of us have the same initials, we’re both R and R,”
