Raven is one of the most underrated wrestlers of the wrestling industry and the ECW legend should have achieved more in the WWE and WCW. Raven is regarded as one of the best talkers in the wrestling industry and has been described as a creative genius.
He was praised for his character work in the WWE during his second run in the company but never got the push he deserved. Being an ECW World Champion once and Hardcore wrestling being his main style, Raven would mostly be involved in Hardcore matches in the WWE. He won the WWE Hardcore Championship a record 27 times.
Raven had a decent WCW career, and his second tenure in the company is renowned for his leadership of the group The Flock. The Flock used to be a group that would sit at the ringside during other wrestler’s matches, interfere, and beat the wrestlers. As a leader of he Flock Raven was involved in feuds with Chris Benoit, Goldberg, Chris Jericho and many more.
He deserved to be pushed to the top, but the WCW didn’t recognize his worth. Raven had a brief feud with Goldberg for the WCW United States Championship in 1998, which Raven had won after defeating DDP at Spring Stampede 1998 but held it only for a day before losing to Goldberg on the following edition of Nitro.
The Former WWE Hardcore Champion, during an appearance on the K&S Wrestlefest webcast, said that he gave Goldberg one the best matches of his career. The match of indeed one of the best WCW Nitro matches of the year and we have to give credit to Raven who made Goldberg look great in the match.
“I thought it was great. I thought it was the best match that Goldberg ever had.”

Back in June 2022, while speaking with Soundsphere Magazine, he stated the reason for his lack of push in the WWE. Raven stated that he had a legit heat with Vince McMahon, and it was one of the primary reasons why he never really got the push he deserved in the company.
He voiced his unhappiness at not being able to achieve what he desired at the company. Raven stated that his work in the ECW would have stood up to anyone’s effort, at any time and in any place. The Hardcore Champion stated that his gimmick was ideal for plot-driven episodic storytelling television, and that is why he came into wrestling in the first place, for the episodic storytelling, which he believed he could have done well.
“WWE, I had heat with [Vince] McMahon. Long story,” Raven said (per Wrestling Inc). “I never really got what I felt was the push I deserved in that company. Whether it’s work rate, whether it’s psychology, whether it’s matches, whether it’s storyline, storyline especially, plot-driven episodic television. Because that’s what I got into wrestling for, was episodic storytelling.”
