Royal Rumble is one of the most awaited WWE Premium Live Events. The name is enough to make the audience get up on their edge of the seats as they wait for the new entrant to the ring. Despite its current growth rate, its idea at first wasn’t very much liked by the WWE Universe.
Any idea that is proposed for the first time ever is bound to receive both the positive and negative side of the response and this is what happened when Pat Patterson proposed starting the WWE Royal Rumble. Pat Patterson is the guy behind starting this mega event.
WWE.com took an interview to know what all he had to go through for making the event a massive hit. The idea of Royal Rumble originated from Battle Royal with a new entrant every 2 minutes. He had a clear visual of the same and knew that the idea would work.
Being the member of the creative team, he had such an idea and so went ahead to tell Vince McMahon about the same. Vince did not approve of the idea at once. His immediate reaction was, “Oh my god, it’s too long. My god, all 20 guys, that’s going to take forever.”
Vince also called it “a stupid idea” before asking him to tell the idea to the TV Executive Dick Ebersol. He went crazy on listening to the idea and said, “That would be so great for live television. Every two minutes another wrestler comes running in and you don’t know who it is until you hear the buzzer!“
How everyone reacted to the proposal of the Royal Rumble
The WWE Superstars were also of mixed opinion when they found out about the event. One thing that they shared was when the audience would say, “Here comes this guy. Who is it? Who is it?” as shared by Jake Roberts. Also what number they would go at also excited the superstars about the event.
It takes a lot for a man to move mountains. To convince others for the deal and to make everything go as per the plan, a man needs a complete picture for the future. If the visuals are clear, the pathway develops on their own and the idea progresses.
Pat Patterson came a long way in starting the Royal Rumble. The WWE Premium Live Event lists in the Top 3 events organised by the company. The entire WWE Universe waits eagerly for the event and to see the massive returns happening in the event.
