For a change that impressed many, Charlotte Flair and Iyo Sky main-evented this week’s SmackDown. The Women’s Champion had a tall task ahead of her as The Queen was gunning for her 15th women’s title. Despite coming ever-so-close to outrunning Iyo, Charlotte lost the match after some barehanded tactics from the champion.
However, despite the dubious ending, Flair and Sky easily stole the night in San Antonio. So much so that even Ric Flair couldn’t hold himself back. The WWE Hall of Famer took to X expressing how much he enjoyed watching both ladies vie for the gold. However, while praising WWE’s Women’s division, Ric aimed a subtle dig at the men. He put it out that the women were so seamless that they put the men’s division to shame.
Although there’s no doubt that Iyo Sky and Charlotte Flair put on a clinic, talking trash about their male counterparts is not something fans would expect Flair to do. There appears to be no ill-will as Ric Flair often does his thing on social media. On most occasions, his posts end up meaning nothing. Likewise, Flair’s latest one could be something the fans can take with a grain of salt.
Had Charlotte won the title from Iyo last night, The Nature Boy would’ve been the happiest man alive. He’s yearning for his daughter to break his all-time World Title record of 16 reigns, tied with John Cena. That will keep the legacy within the Flair dynasty. Though it’s highly probable that Charlotte will reach that milestone someday, it’s time for other women to have the spotlight at the moment. And Iyo Sky is the perfect example of that.
Charlotte Flair received the aid of Bianca Belair on SmackDown
Seemingly, things between Damage CTRL and Charlotte Flair are not over. After Sky retained her title over Flair on SmackDown, Bayley and Dakota Kai joined Iyo to attack The Queen in tandem. However, they couldn’t last long as a returning Bianca Belair forced the break. The EST went straight after the Damage CTRL members.
Belair was about to pummel the Women’s Champion. However, Bayley pulled Iyo out right in time. Although it saved the day for Iyo Sky, Bayley ended up eating a vicious KOD from Belair. Once again, The Role Model stood up for her girls and sacrificed herself. Bianca then consoled Charlotte as Damage CTRL retrieved.
There appears to be some sort of warfare brewing in the mix. With Survivor Series around the corner, both sides could see the addition of more members to potentially throw it down inside the WarGames, it seems.
