World Wrestling Entertainment for decades has the been epitome of sports entertainment not only in the United States but all over the world. Vince McMahon took over the company from his father and changes the wrestling business almost on his own, bringing larger than life characters to the squared circle for the wrestling fans has worked quite well for the former WWE Chairman. In the early going they had competition from the companies like World Championship Wrestling and Extreme Championship Wrestling.

The rise of WCW in the mid 1990’s till the early 2000’s provided the wrestling fans all over the world with a viable option to World Wrestling Entertainment. The famous Monday Night Wars between WCW and World Wrestling Entertainment are regarded by many as a golden period for professional wrestling as the two major companies would go head to head on Monday night. In order to gain the upper hand in viewership and the overall rating WWE and WCW would put up eventful shows week in week out and in all of this the fans benefited the most as they got quality product every week.

In 2019 AEW emerged as a viable threat for WWE after decades of dominance

Vince McMahon would finally come out on top of the Monday Night Wars due to same bad decisions taken by WCW management. World Wrestling Entertainment eventually ended up buying the company signalling the official end of the Monday Night Wars. Since then WWE has virtually no competition in the United States at least and has always been the best at attracting best wrestlers in the world. TNA would try and compete with WWE but it was never even a fight. This was the scenario until 2019, In 2019 Tony Khan along with wrestlers Kenny Omega, Young Bucks and Cody Rhodes established All Elite Wrestling.

AEW announced that they will be airing weekly episodes on TNT where originally WCW was aired. AEW provided a legit threat to WWE as the new company had wrestlers from all over the world and many want away WWE superstars as well. With a different wrestling styles and a variety of new matches at their disposal AEW was officially a threat to WWE after decades of dominance.

Many former superstars would go on to join the new company with likes of Jon Moxley, Chris Jericho, CM Punk just to name a few. The product was good on its own and let many to speculate that this was the beginning of a new war in professional wrestling. Hall of Famer Road Dogg recently spoke about the competition between the companies. While speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Road Dogg shared his opinion on the “war” between the two companies:

“[AEW is] not going head to head with [WWE] so it almost feels more like, not a war but like — I don’t know — Like, there is another wrestling show on… I don’t think the boys are so in a competition, in a war, as the offices are, you know what I mean?”

Road Dogg who is former Intercontinental Champion was laid off by WWE due to the budget cuts and has also expressed his desire to work with AEW. It will be interesting to see if this happens anytime soon as former WWE talents like William Regal have started working with AEW.
