Roxanne Perez was recently involved in a rivalry with Cora Jade, which culminated at NXT Halloween Havoc in Weapons Wild match. Perez won the hard-fought contest against Jade, and fans lauded both superstars for their performance. The match was interesting, and the audience felt the emotions throughout. Just days before Halloween Havoc, Roxanne Perez made WWE history as she became the first superstar to compete on the blue brand while being younger than the show itself. For those unaware, SmackDown first aired in 1999, which means its in the 23rd year on TV. Perez, however, is only 22.
Roxanne Perez recently appeared on WWE’s El de Brunch and discussed her main roster debut. She said that making her SmackDown debut was quite surreal. When Perez was 11 years old, her father took her to see SmackDown live for the first time. She said that her father had surprised her and that she did not know it was SmackDown until she entered the arena and spotted WWE merchandise all over.
“That was very surreal. SmackDown was actually the first live WWE show that my dad took me to, so I was maybe like 11, and he surprised me…..We get to the arena, and I walk in, and they have all the WWE merch, and I was like, we’re at a WWE show, and it was SmackDown,”(Fightful)
Roxanne Perez talks about her WWE tryout experience
During the same interview, Perez revealed she attended a standard tryout at the WWE Performance Center alongside 50 other hopefuls. She stated that the tryout lasted two days and that, while WWE had not yet hired her, they asked her to take part in a three-week-long extended trial in February. The tryout, according to Perez, was incredibly demanding and lasted for 12 arduous hours.
Perez recalled, “They called me back and they said, ‘Okay, we’re not hiring you yet. We want to bring you back for an extended tryout in February, and that will be three weeks……Every single day, it was like, 8 a.m. till like 8 p.m. … It was intense, and sometimes, during those three weeks, I would get down on myself.”
