WWE returned to the United States after hosting Elimination Chamber: Perth in Australia. On Raw this week, multiple matches and segments took place on the Road to WrestleMania. In one of the notable matches of the night, two arch rivals, Sami Zayn and Shinsuke Nakamura, battled to settle their scores for good.
Both superstars took each other to the limit, and it was difficult to determine the winner initially. With heavy rights and moves exchanged, it felt like Nakamura might pick up the win until Sami turned the tables around. The King of Strong Style was heading for the Kinshasa when The Great Liberator sidestepped and hit him with two Helluva kicks to sweep his first victory of 2024.
Two weeks ago, Zayn squared off against Nakamura for the first time in years. Right when the former Honorary Uce was about to end his losing streak since the Men’s Wargames Match at Survivor Series 2023, Drew McIntyre showed up. The Scottish Warrior distracted the 39-year-old superstar to help Supernova pick up the win.
Zayn and Nakamura have been rivals for a very long time. The latter debuted on NXT against the former to kick off his WWE career. Also, the two superstars joined forces once, with Zayn being the hype man for Nakamura. Since their rivalry reignited this year after a long time, the score has seemingly yet to be settled between them. Therefore, it is likely that the pair will square off in the upcoming weeks.
Sami Zayn’s Road to WrestleMania XL seems under construction
It is hard to imagine Sami Zayn without any plans for WrestleMania, especially after main eventing the show last year. The Underdog from the Underground faced off with Randy Orton in the lead up to Elimination Chamber: Perth. The Viper defeated him to qualify for the men’s chamber match, and Sami was seen storming to the locker room, furious about being left out on the Road to WrestleMania XL.
After failing to qualify, Drew McIntyre interfered with the former Intercontinental Champion as aforementioned. McIntyre also injured him en route to the Royal Rumble Match and eliminated him upon his return. With the self-proclaimed DM Hunk punching his ticket to WrestleMania XL by winning the chamber match, Zayn might end up making it a Triple Threat Match.
Seth “Freakin” Rollins and McIntyre have collided in the past, and their match at the Showcase of the Immortals seems repetitive. Adding Zayn to the mix will elevate the title picture and help rejuvenate the big feel of the match. Moreover, with Rollins, getting a three-way match instead of a singles contest will instantly raise the stakes of the match and enhance the WWE Universe’s interest.
