Former Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn is going through some of the roughest times right now. His confidence hit rock bottom after suffering several losses over the past few weeks. Zayn is in an ultimate battle to be the best version of himself again which people love.
The 39-year-old gave an interview backstage, disappointed with the constant losses and wondering what’s next for him. He further added that there’s a gut feeling that even though his path is unclear right now, he would surely find his way to WrestleMania. Zayn promised to not only be at the show of shows but to create a historic moment for himself.

Since their fantastic victory at Survivor Series: WarGames, Zayn hasn’t been at his peak level. He had an injury a few times here and there, but the star power he had around the time of WrestleMania 39 was slowly fading away. The 39-year-old was defeated by Drew McIntyre multiple times before losing to Viper Randy Orton in the Elimination Chamber qualifying match.
I am not trusting the feeling that's in my gut that there is a path for me at WrestleMania. Not only just go to Wrestlemania, but a chance to do something historic.Sami Zayn during backstage interview
However, things got even worse for him when Shinsuke Nakamura defeated him by hitting Kinshasa, thanks to McIntyre’s distraction. The situation is really difficult for Zayn, as he has no path left that could lead him to the show of shows. He is scheduled to battle Nakamura again on Raw next week. Only time will tell whether Zayn will be able to overcome the challenge or if he will suffer another heartbreaking loss.
Sami Zayn does not consider himself a true contender for being a champion instead of an underdog
Sami Zayn had a fantastic 2023, as he main-evented WrestleMania and won the tag team titles. He was a perennial main eventer on Raw and proved that he has grown a lot through the years. However, that time of him being an underdog has been long gone according to him.

Zayn gave an interview with Jackie Redmond and shed some more light on his thought process. He stated that last year around this time was one of the biggest nights for him, as he wrestled Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber. The 39-year-old went in as an underdog and put up a great fight, but it wasn’t enough.
It transported me to last year around the same time, right after the Royal Rumble comes Elimination Chamber. It was the biggest match of my career, against Roman Reigns, in my hometown, Cinderella story but you know, came up little short.Sami Zayn in an interview via WWE
He further said that he does not want to be stuck in that loop, where he comes close to winning the title but fails at the last minute. After seeing all he has achieved last year, he truly considers himself a true title contender, not an underdog. The 39-year-old vows to become a champion soon, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for Sami Zayn.
