Exactly three years ago, AEW suspended Sammy Guevara for something he did in the past. In January 2016, the 29-year-old uttered a bunch of disgraceful slurs towards former WWE Superstar Sasha Banks. During a podcast back then, Guevara recalled his WWE tryout experience and then he channelled his vulgarism. He spotted Banks at his tryout and got sensually pleased from The Boss.
The exact wordings from Mr. Guevara were – “Bro, Sasha Banks; oh my God. When I was at the WWE the other week I wanted to just go f****** rape that woman.”As any compassionate human being would know, those comments were as disparaging as anything could get. After they were resurfaced during the Speaking Out movement in 2020, the Tony Khan-led promotion took disciplinary measures towards Sammy. Only after completing a month of extensive sensitive training, he was called back to the programming.
The former TNT Champion did apologize to Banks after realizing the sin he committed. In a couple of since-deleted tweets, Guevara wrote everything he could. The defunct tweets are available on Wrestling Observer Newsletter, if anyone wants to read them out. Following that, Sasha Banks also posted a long note on her Twitter account concerning her issues with the AEW wrestler.
She mentioned how Sammy personally apologized to her, however that kind of loathe besmirches humanity and is unacceptable on any level. Furthermore, that apologetic note didn’t help Guevara at all. He continues to be disdained amongst any crowd he performs in front of. That partially has to do with his on-screen pairing with Tay Melo, his wife. Fans completely rejected themselves being together.
What is Sasha Banks doing currently?

After making headlines following her controversial walk-out from WWE, she joined New Japan Pro-Wrestling. Since January of this year, Banks repackaged herself as Mercedes Mone. Soon after her debut, she captured the IWGP Women’s Title from KAIRI (formerly as Kairi Sane in WWE).
She also wrestled on Stardom, NJPW’s sister promotion, for quite a while. Back in May last month, she competed at NJPW: Resurgence pay-per-view. In the finals of Strong Women’s Championship tournament, she suffered an ankle injury midway the match. On camera, her catastrophic fall to the outside looked worse. After a medical evaluation, she was confirmed to have broken her ankle.
Prior to that, she was also in conversations with Tony Khan and AEW. Most probably, the discussions were held regarding Mone’s potential plans for the annual Forbidden Door crossover event of AEW & NJPW. However, nothing came to fruition as The Blueprint got banged up. She’s expected to miss 4-6 months of in-ring action.
