One of the best stories in recent times is Saraya getting cleared to wrestle after her life-threatening injury in 2017. Saraya might not sound like a familiar name to many WWE fans, but Paige is certainly an emotion for many of Saraya’s fans in the wrestling industry.
Saraya, who went by the name Paige in the WWE, is one of the most talented wrestlers of the current generation. Many wrestling pundits and fans around the world praised her for her character work and in-ring ability, and she would have accomplished so much more in WWE, had injuries not marred if her later career.
A kick by Sasha Banks behind her neck at a live show in December 2017 caused Saraya an impact injury, and thereafter she never returned to in-ring competition. Saraya aka Paige announced her retirement in April 2018. She then worked as a SmackDown GM for a year and even managed the Kabuki Warriors at one point after announcing her retirement. During her final years in the WWE, she worked as a contributor for the show WWE Backstage. Saraya didn’t have much work in the WWE during the pandemic and departed from the company this year in July.
In a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, the Former WWE Superstar discussed how Saraya differs from Paige. Saraya, she claims, is more mature and sober, whereas Paige is the emotionally fragile girl with the anxious teen face. Paige, she added, didn’t care about anybody, even herself, and was just concerned with her wrestling physique, but Saraya is concerned with her health and mental stability.
“I’m not her anymore, she’s the young version of me, and now I’m like the older version, um, but yeah, uh, that kind of Paige, just didn’t give an f about anybody, not even herself. She just cared about outside of wrestling body and stuff like that, where me as Saraya; I focus on elevating myself, remaining healthy and mentally being happier”.

Saraya reveals how WWE helped her during her tough times

Saraya discussed how WWE assisted her during her career with the company in the same interview. When she was battling with drug and alcohol issues, she claimed WWE hired a therapist for her. She stated the therapist would be on call with her every day and that he would also introduce her to therapists in her region if she needed them. She claims she cherishes her time with the WWE and doesn’t have to say anything negative about them.
“I never want to talk bad about WWE because they helped me so much throughout my career. Even when I was going through drugs and alcohol, they got me a therapist and stuff like that. Like Bob, who is an in-house therapist for drugs and alcohol too, would be on a call with me every day. I love my time with them, I really did, I loved it, you know, I don’t have a bad thing to say about them.”
Saraya made her AEW debut in September of this year. On the November 9th edition of Dynamite, she announced doctors medically cleared her to wrestle. She will face Dr. Britt Baker at the AEW Full Gear PPV on November 19th. This will be Paige’s first professional wrestling match in five years.
