The 7″2′ Indian origin Satnam Singh reveals why he chose AEW over WWE

Satnam Singh, a former basketball player, was signed by AEW in September 2021 after attending a WWE Performance Center audition in 2017. Singh made his professional wrestling debut earlier this month, assaulting ROH World Television Champion Samoa Joe and teaming up with Sonjay Dutt and Jay Lethal.

Singh made his debut to aid AEW’s expansion in India. Within AEW, the debut was met with mixed reviews, and AEW President Tony Khan later remarked that the debut could have been better booked. Khan reportedly got into an argument with fans about the negative criticism. Satnam Singh also revealed why he chose AEW over WWE.

The tall athlete revealed that he chose to sign to AEW because he wanted to be their AEW wrestler. He was seen multiple times in WWE’s performance centre and WWE seemed to be highly impressed by him, according to reports. WWE also posted multiple videos of Singh giving his tryouts, with appreciating comments and captions. Satnam Singh said:

“I had given trials for WWE as well and I liked it very much as well. And I liked AEW as well. AEW is, like, brand new. It’s only been a couple of years, right? And it’s really fire. I thought that if I go to AEW, I would be the first again. The first wrestler from India. I will make another history for India in AEW. If I go into WWE, that would be amazing but amazing, but why? Because they already have Indian people over there, they have Indian wrestlers. Why don’t I go start there where there are no Indian guys and create history again after reaching there? Not for me, for the Indian wrestlers. For everyone.”

In the same year, Singh had his WWE Performance Center audition. Regarding the WWE tryout, Singh spoke to Sportskeeda last year and commented on the process.
