Ever since his early days in WWE, Sheamus has picked up a reputation for being a physical worker. One of his very first feuds came up against the current AEW Superstar, Bryan Danielson. Back in 2011, both men were killing it on a weekly basis, dishing out several clinics. As a result, Bryan and Sheamus developed spectacular chemistry.

However, being rookies at that juncture, their performances were way too good. And that didn’t sit well with some of the top talents at the time. The revelation was made by Sheamus himself during a recent interview with Alistair McGeorge. The Irishman became reminiscent of his renowned feud with the former Daniel Bryan.

According to Sheamus, his above-par matches with Bryan disgruntled the so-called top guys of the company. Allegedly, they grew jealous of both Bryan and Sheamus’ indomitable commitment to their work. The Celtic Warrior said, “People were telling us, Oh, you need to relax, you need to calm down! Why? Why would we calm down? To make you feel better? To make you feel better about your match? Because you have to follow us, right?”

The Dublin-based wrestler decided not to name anyone. However, his comments did reflect the polluted backstage environment WWE has had in the past. The main concern for others was figuring out how they’d follow up on Bryan vs. Sheamus matches. Those guys used to beat the hell out of each other. Without caring much about their physical well-being, they put many top guys to shame.

Sheamus will face Edge on WWE SmackDown next week

Last week on SmackDown, Edge showed up to announce he would have a match at his 25-year WWE anniversary bash in Toronto. That said, everyone was curious to know who he’d be facing. The Rated-R Superstar didn’t milk it too much before revealing Sheamus as the one.

Edge went down memory lane to tell a beautiful story. That included Sheamus being the one to get him ready for his in-ring return in 2020. After a worthy explanation of why he chose Sheamus over anyone, the fans jumped in elation. WWE made it official that Edge and Sheamus will battle in a first-ever matchup on SmackDown next week.

In a guaranteed banger, it would be interesting to see who gains the upper hand. Also, contrary to previous speculations, it doesn’t seem like the WWE Hall of Famer is going to retire in Toronto.
