John Cena is arguably one of the biggest superstars to ever come out of the WWE. Over the course of two decades, Cena has had many memorable feuds with numerous superstars. He went on to win multiple championships and wrestle in the main event of WrestleMania for almost a decade. During the late 2000s and early 2010s, John Cena’s main opponent was the up-and-coming superstar Sheamus.
Recently, a fan shared a throwback video of the WWE Championship match between Sheamus and John Cena, which took place at TLC 2009. The match had a stipulation that a wrestler would only win the match after their opponent went through a table. The Irish veteran was successful in pushing Cena into a table, which led him to win his first-ever WWE Championship. The fan also noted that this unexpected victory came just 166 days after Sheamus’ WWE debut.
Sheamus reacted to the tweet, saying that he loves John Cena. Cena’s role was crucial in establishing him as a main eventer. He would win multiple championships in the WWE after this. Moreover, Sheamus went on to win the 2012 Royal Rumble and subsequently win the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 28. The Celtic Warrior has been a consistent performer in the WWE for over 15 years.
Even fifteen years after debuting on the main roster, Sheamus continues to put on banger matches against all-comers. He saw a career revival after his match against Gunther at Clash at the Castle in 2022. He got a standing ovation from the audience despite coming out on the losing end.
