In recent years under Vince McMahon‘s leadership, WWE’s tag team division saw a decline. However, with Triple H at the helm, there has been a revitalization. This week, General Manager, Nick Aldis hinted at the division’s potential direction in a conversation with New Catch Republic, consisting of Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate.
In a backstage segment, Nick Aldis is seen with the New Catch Republic, who express frustration over their loss against Judgement Day, attributing it to interference from Dirty Dom. They mention that had it not been for the interference, the tag titles would have been on SmackDown. Determined, they assert that they will do whatever it takes to secure a title match at WrestleMania. Aldis acknowledges ambition, saying WrestleMania is a tall order but assures discussions about the tag titles with Adam Pearce.
One potential decision being considered is splitting the Undisputed tag titles. This move could provide more opportunities for the growing tag team division in WWE, which includes teams like Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate, DIY, Pretty Deadly, New Day, and Imperium. Separate titles for each brand could lead to more diverse and competitive tag team matches across WWE programming.
At Elimination Chamber, Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate delivered a stellar performance in their match against Finn Balor and Damian Priest. The bout showcased their incredible in-ring skills, impressing fans and highlighting the depth of talent in the WWE tag team division.
History of Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate
Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate have a history that predates their time in WWE. Back in the UK, they were part of a faction called British Strong Style, alongside Trent Seven. The trio made waves in the British wrestling scene, gaining a reputation for their unique blend of technical prowess and hard-hitting style. Their dominance caught the attention of WWE.
The reunion of British Strong Style in WWE NXT came about when the Undisputed Era targeted Pete Dunne, prompting the faction to reform and make their presence known in WWE. British Strong Style defeated Undisputed Era in a highly anticipated match for the NXT Tag Team Championships. Following this, Moustache Mountain, consisting of Tyler Bate and Trent Seven, went on to capture the NXT Tag Team Championships in a thrilling match against Kyle O’Reilly and Bobby Fish of the Undisputed Era.
When WWE released Trent Seven, the group disbanded, leading to Pete Dunne pursuing a singles career. Dunne joined the main roster, teaming with the Brawling Brutes and adopting the name Butch. However, despite their efforts, Butch struggled to gain traction. Bruiserweight then reverted to using his original name and reunited with Tyler Bate, forming the tag team known as New Catch Republic.
