“I don’t see that hot-headedness”- Former SmackDown GM opens up on Randy Orton’s injury amidst retirement rumors

It seems like the WWE Universe should brace themselves for a heartbreak. At the moment, things aren't looking good for Randy Orton following his prolonged rehabilitation period. Teddy Long has too opined on the same.

It’s been over a year since Randy Orton last appeared in WWE. After sustaining a back injury last May, he’s been out of action. Initially, everyone thought that it would eventually heal after a certain period through surgery. However, given that he’s still not medically cleared more than 365 days later, it’s more serious than ever.

The Viper even had to undergo a lower-back fusion surgery to cure the physical damage. Earlier this year around WrestleMania, rumors got circulated concerning Orton’s comeback. At the end of the day, they weren’t true. Providing an update on his son’s current situation, Bob Orton dropped an upsetting news. According to the WWE Hall of Famer, Randy has been advised by doctors to never step back inside that ring again.

It’s as heartbreaking as something can get. For sure, The Apex Predator’s uncalled retirement would be a hard pill to swallow. Sharing his own thoughts over Randy Orton’s present scenario, Teddy Long spoke with Sportskeeda. The former SmackDown General Manager believes that Orton has finally accepted being a family man. Also, if doctors have advised against his in-ring return, he’d obey them.

“I don’t see that hot-headedness in him that he used to have. I think he’s calmed down and understands what it means to be alive.“I can’t count it out (that Orton might opt to return), you know how this business is to some people. They’ve got it in their blood, they just got to do it, but I think Randy will do the smart thing.“And I think if the doctor is telling him not to come back, I don’t think he will.”

Who should face Randy Orton in his retirement match?

Even thought it’s a far cry to even reach there, however, if somehow Randy pulls off a miracle and returns to WWE, he should have a proper send off. The Legend Killer has dedicated his entire life to this company and proved his loyalty at times. The Viper has nothing to prove at this juncture of his career.

However, if there’s someone perfect enough to be his last opponent, it should be John Cena. Who can ever forget those physical and iconic clashes between the two icons back in the day. With Cena’s Hollywood career in full-swing and a meagre possibility for the alignment of stars to make this happen, it’s really hard to imagine if these legends will ever cross paths again.
