“It has to be the right people behind it” – WWE’s Bella Twins talk about the closure and the potential return of Total Divas

“It has to be the right people behind it” – WWE’s Bella Twins talk about the closure and the potential return of Total Divas

Total Divas is available to watch on Hulu, WWE Network and Peacock.

The divas division in WWE has gone through a massive transformation over the years. With certainly being objectified in the initial years of the company, the divas have gone to become legit athletes raising the bar high and taking women’s pro-wrestling to new heights. The Bella Twins are undoubtedly one of the pioneers in this transition. Also, WWE introduced a dedicated reality TV show to the divas, that would allow fans to sneak peek into their real lives.

Total Divas began airing on July 28, 2013, as a part of a partnership with E!, an American cable TV network. The show became a huge success as it became highest rated season premiere throughout its run. Over the years, the show would go on to become a subsequent hit before going off-air in 2019. The show lasted for 9 seasons and The Bella Twins played a crucial role in the show’s development.

Bella Twins open about the closure of WWE’s reality show Total Divas

WWE Total Divas
WWE’s reality show Total Divas aired a total of 9 seasons before failing to renew itself owing to its low ratings.

It has to be noted that both the sisters also served as the Executive producer of the show for different seasons. Not only this, but an interesting fact is also that the show came to a halt when The Bellas didn’t participate in the final season. Now in a recent interview with TVInsider, the two spoke on the success of the show and it’s return. Nikki Bella spoke that the show didn’t get enough credit for the revolution that it tried to bring.

She added- “I believe it was also a reason why we had more girls showing up. Here were these reality fans that believed in us and our stories inside and outside the ring. They wanted to come to watch it live and grew into fans.” Nikki Bella believes that the show became instrumental to show how difficult it is for the female wrestlers to cope up with personal and professional life at the same time.

She further added-It changed the game so much for us. It made people believe in women’s wrestling. I do hope it does come back down the line, being an executive producer. I’ve always had such strong opinions about it.”  Talking about the show’s closure and it’s potential return, Nikki said that it was becoming a more of a bad girls’ club drama and she felt that it was not at all the objective of the show.

But, the former Women’s Champion do want the show to return to build up more future female superstars but she feels that there should be right people behind it. Nikki saidI do hope it comes back because we have so many interesting and amazing women….I think we can make more magic happen with Total Divas, but it has to be the right people behind it.  She also believes that people watched Total Divas not for controversies but because it empowered people.

Nikki’s twin sister Brie added to the point and said“It would be awesome to see a Becky Lynch on there. Does she cry after a match? Does she kiss her daughter before she comes out? I think if viewers saw the same moments you saw on Total Divas, you would connect to them in a different way and in a bigger light. I think it would make stars, too.” The Bellas also had a separate show revolving around their personal lives, packaged as- “Total Bellas”, which also saw a successful run on the television but also went off-air with Total Divas.
