Former NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa has finally undergone a surgery for his injured back. Running absent from multiple weeks on Monday Night Raw, the curiosity had almost killed us as there was no update over The Blackheart. This week on Raw, we do got a mention about him when Johnny Gargano said that he’s texted Ciampa and found that the latter is injured.
Before disappearing from television, Ciampa was working alongside Miz as a cohesive unit. Initially, the NXT ace was just matching up to the A-lister’s impressive resume. However, once Triple H got his hands on the creative, we saw immediate changes in Tommaso’s on-screen presentation. He is one of the favourite guys of Hunter.
In general, Ciampa is regarded as the pillar of NXT Black and Gold era. His heel work is constantly compared to that of old-school characters. Although, there are countless high quality matches and feuds that he’s been a part of over the years staying in NXT, one just hits different.
Back in 2017, at the NXT Takeover in Chicago, DIY (Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa) lost to Authors of Pain. Running through endless period of overflowing emotions, Ciampa did the unexpected and callously betrayed Johnny Wrestling on the entrance stage, when they were about to head backstage.
They had one of the greatest matches in history, probably, when Gargano challenged The Blackheart for the NXT Championship at NXT Takeover Brooklyn IV. The stipulation was a Last Man Standing one in which, Tommasso Ciampa prevailed. Till date, this match is hard to top and gets the recognition for it’s fantastic execution.

Tommaso Ciampa gets candid with his injury update on Instagram
Taking to this official Instagram, Tommaso Ciampa answered the quest of his beloved fans. In the post, he also revealed how severe his injury was, including the mention about “shredded cheese” as a way that her wife described to him. The recently turned Raw Superstar also thanked the never-exhausting medical staff of WWE.
The affected area included a hip labrum that looked like shredded cheese, as mentioned above. Winding up on the note, he ensured to drop a motivating quote from Rocky Balboa which says, “But it ain’t how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.”
