Massive update on nixed plans for Finn Balor’s Demon gimmick, WrestleMania plans still up in air
The Demon persona of Finn Balor has not been seen since Extreme Rules 2021; however, there were rumours that his alter ego is set to make a comeback before WrestleMania which was reportedly been nixed by the WWE.

Since his first NXT run, Finn Balor has been using The Demon persona to embrace the darker version of himself. The “Demon” alter ego of Balor on the main roster was first seen when he became the first-ever Universal champion at SummerSlam 2016. Since then, Balor has appeared with his Demon gimmick only seven times on the main roster. The Demon was undefeated as well until he squared off with the Tribal Chief at Extreme Rules 2021.
Previous rumors suggested that Finn Balor would bring The Demon back to the Royal Rumble in 2023 to face Edge. Their match was also rumored to be inside Hell in a Cell. However, that was not the case, as the Rated “R” Superstar had other television commitments. Instead, fans saw Edge make his return during the men’s Rumble match to take the story further with The Judgment Day.
It was later reported that Balor and Edge would conclude their gruelling rivalry at WrestleMania 39. However, Fightful Select reported that, aside from Edge’s other commitments, WWE resisted bringing back The Demon for a variety of reasons. “Demon just didn’t work with the current iteration of The Judgement Day,” Fightful discovered.
Considering the reports, fans may not see The Demon anytime soon in WWE. However, never say never until the official announcement by WWE is made. The story is still developing, and fans can expect The Demon to make a surprise appearance.

Finn Balor vs. Edge at WrestleMania 39 still in cards?
The Rated “R” Superstar has been feuding with The Judgment Day since the better part of last year. Following a defeat against Finn Balor in an “I quit” match at Extreme Rules last year, Edge made his triumphant return during the men’s Rumble match. Edge eliminated Balor and Damian Priest from the match and continued brawling with them on the ramp.
Balor then squared off with WWE Hall of Famer in a mixed tag match at the Elimination Chamber, where he got pinned by Edge. It looked like the story ended there. However, on the latest episode of Raw, Balor interfered in Edge’s match against Austin Theory. After costing him the match for the US title, Balor hit a trifactor of “coup de grace” on Edge.
The assault on Edge by Finn on Raw clearly indicates the continuation of their rivalry. Conclusion of their feud might be seen at the Show of Shows from here on. The WrestleMania 39 bout between Balor and Edge is reported to still be in the works. Regardless of whether it’s a “Hell in a Cell” match or any other stipulation, the showdown is happening.
