On the recent episode of Monday Night Raw, The Miz and Gunther fought for the IC title. After last week’s victory over Imperium, Miz got another opportunity for the championship. However, this time he received his last chance to challenge the Imperium leader.
The Intercontinental Championship match featured the A-Lister and Gunther in a fierce battle. The former WWE Champion tried all the tricks under his sleeve to decimate the Austrian superstar, eventually injuring him. The champion did give his share of damage to the challenger with multiple chops to the chest and suplexes, but that did not slow down The Miz.
Eventually, after multiple attempts, Miz made a breakthrough with a second rope Skull Crushing Finale. This brought the audience to their feet as the challenger rolled for the pin. Unfortunately, his luck did not last as the champion escaped the ring.
Following massive damage, Gunther bounced back, pinning The Miz with two powerful powerbombs and a lariat. The match ended as the champion walked out victorious, destroying another victim on Monday Night Raw. The 36-year-old champion showcased good endurance against the former WWE Champion. Despite injuring his right arm, he pinned The Miz to retain the IC title.
Who is the next in line to challenge Gunther?
Gunther has proved to be a noteworthy superstar on Monday Night Raw. Since winning the title last year, he has demonstrated his worth in a series of excellent matches with utter dominance. Superstars like Drew McIntyre, Sheamus, Rey Mysterio, and many more tried their best against the champion but no one was successful in ending Gunther’s reign.
After defeating the A-Lister, WWE will soon have to put another superstar opposite Gunther. However, the majority of the Raw superstars had their chance to face the IC Champion. That being said, there is always a chance for a rematch, as recently, Bronson Reed was seen talking with Gunther about the second chance at the IC title.
The former North American Champion emerges as the prime candidate for a shot at the IC title. Also, WWE appears to be revisiting rematches for the IC title, and in their previous clash, the reigning champion grappled with the formidable challenge posed by the powerhouse. It will be interesting to see what lies ahead for the Ring General.
