Bret Hart is one of the greatest wrestlers ever to grace the squared circle. He was the face of the company during the 1990s and was the most respected figure in the locker room. The Hitman’s exit from the company was on a controversial note after the Survivor Series 1997, infamously known as the Montreal Screwjob.

The ‘Hitman’ later joined WCW, and became a two-time World Champion, but his WCW career didn’t last long. In just two years, he retired from wrestling after a freak injury at the hands of Goldberg. Doctors diagnosed Bret Hart with post-concussion syndrome, which meant he had to end his career for good.

While Bret Hart cut ties with WWE and moved to WCW, a ton of his friends were still under contract to WWE. Sadly, their friendship with Bret Hart ultimately came back to haunt them as WWE reportedly held back these superstars. And one such superstar was former UFC Champion, Ken Shamrock.

Recently, during an interview with VladTV, Ken Shamrock stated that after the Montreal Screwjob, it was downhill for Bret Hart’s friends in the WWE. Shamrock claims WWE scrapped his push because he was one of Hart’s friends.

“The Screwjob happened and, from that point on, we started going downhill from there,” Shamrock said. “I believe it was because I trained with Bret. I went to Calgary and worked out with them at Stu’s [Bret’s father] place, and I became close to that group.”

During an interview on the 81 Podcast in 2021, Bret Hart said he was delighted Ken Shamrock had some successful years in the wrestling industry. Since the Montreal Screwjob, according to Hart, led to Shamrock’s downfall in WWE.

Hitman said that Shamrock called him after the Montreal Screwjob and told him he would always be one of his boys. Hart claimed that Shamrock always had his back and was there to assist whenever he needed him.

He also added that the ‘World’s Most Dangerous Man’ was someone he had always trusted and someone who always supported him.

“I’m glad that he did have some good wrestling years……. but he was… remember after the Screwjob happened, he called me the next day. He goes, ‘I just want you to remember, I’ll always be one of your guys.”
