Vince McMahon finally retired from WWE after a glorious forty year career. In this massive career, the Billionaire has done several hilarious and outrageous things. One such outrageous act, was when he booked himself to win the Royal Rumble and even the WWF Championship as well.
In 1999, Vince McMahon established himself as a heel on screen and was engaged in a feud with the face of the company at the time, Stone Cold Steve Austin. During the annual Royal Rumble match in 1999, Steve Austin entered as the #1 entrant, while McMahon entered the match at #2.
The Royal Rumble match started off with a brawl that spilled throughout the arena. However, this was all part of Vince McMahon’s genius plan. He lured Austin into the men’s restroom, where his stooges and paid superstars ambushed the ‘Rattlesnake,’ taking him out of the equation.
Mr. McMahon then returned to the match, but instead of entering the ring, he made himself comfortable on commentary. The billionaire was all too confident he had gotten rid of Austin, but much to his chagrin, Austin 3:16 made a heroic return in the closing moments of the Royal Rumble match.
Stone Cold finally could get his hands on Mr. McMahon. But before he could eliminate him, The Rock, who was the WWE Champion interefered and distracted Austin, allowing McMahon to dump him over the top rope to win the 1999 Royal Rumble match. Thus, ending Stone Cold Steve Austin’s hopes of winning it three years in a row.

Vince McMahon after winning the Royal Rumble in 1999, forfeit his WrestleMania bout against The Rock. But Austin had enough with The Brahma Bull. Austin overcame a plethora of obstacles before finally getting a match against The Rock at WrestleMania.
Six months following WrestleMania, the unthinkable happened. McMahon had entered a feud with Triple H, and on the September 16 edition of SmackDown in 1999, he defeated Triple H to win the WWF World Championship. But Mr. McMahon didn’t do it on his own, he did with help from the ‘Texas Rattlesnake’ himself!

Fans still question McMahon’s decision to put himself over stars like Steve Austin and Triple H to gain an upper hand. But, in reality, both feuds helped stars like Austin, Rock, and Triple H to establish their fandom. After all, everyone loves to see a story of a ‘No BS’ employee putting his boss in place. Or, a degenerate wooing the boss’ daughter, in Triple H’s case.
