The absence of Corey Graves was filled up by WWE legend Road Dogg on this week’s episode of SmackDown. The Hall of Famer did an incredible job on commentary, impressing fans with his voice. The reason Road Dogg was on the SmackDown commentary panel this week was due to Corey Graves being on paternity leave.
His wife and WWE Superstar Carmella recently gave birth to a baby boy. As a result, Corey Graves took some time off from WWE programming. Therefore, his absence was fulfilled by Road Dogg this week. Moreover, it added an interesting flavor to the show, as Dogg is not a regular commentator.
Last week, Kevin Owens took charge of the commentary team along with Michael Cole. However, SmackDown GM Nick Aldis suspended him due to his actions. Therefore, Road Dogg took his place this week on the blue brand. He had fun while calling the action as he joined Kevin Patrick and Michael Cole.
It is still unclear if Road Dogg will be part of the commentary team on Friday Night SmackDown next week. If not, it is going to be interesting to see who will be taking up his place. Road Dogg is one of the most popular stars from the Attitude Era. His presence on the commentary table might provide nostalgia for the audience of that era.
Did Road Dogg accidently break a WWE rule on SmackDown?
Road Dogg did an entertaining job on commentary this week on SmackDown. However, he made a blunder as he dropped an unexpected name while calling out the match. During the commentary, the WWE veteran mentioned the name of his former Tag Team partner Billy Gunn, who is no longer a part of WWE.
Dogg dropped the name of Billy Gunn, who was his tag team partner in the New Age Outlaws, several times on SmackDown. WWE doesn’t mention any former superstars who are no longer working with the company. It’s an unwritten WWE rule that has been followed to this day. Billy Gunn is currently working in All Elite Wrestling, which makes the scenario more concerning.
However, Triple H is the head of the creative department now, which might help Road Dogg not get into trouble. Dogg first mentioned the name of his former partner during the match between Pretty Deadly and Street Profits.
