Smackdown sees a slight increase in the overnight numbers compared to last week.

The overnight numbers for last night’s WWE Friday Night Smackdown have been revealed. The one thing to be noted here is that this week’s episode of Friday Night Smackdown was taped with last week’s show because of WWE being on the European tour this week.

According to Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics, WWE Smackdown did a prelim of 1,859,000 viewers which is a bit up from last week’s overnight numbers. Final viewership for Smackdown will be out next week.

Last week’s show did a final number of 1.952 million viewers with a 0.47 rating in the key 18-49 demographic, which was Smackdown’s lowest number in around 9 months.

WWE Smackdown
Drew McIntyre faced Sami Zayn in a Steel-Cage match this week.

Although this week’s Smackdown was not a live show but still many interesting and unexpected changes were seen made during the course of the show.

First of all, Smackdown opened up with a already announced Steel Cage match between Drew McIntyre and Sami Zayn. The story of this match was that Sami has been running away from McIntyre in previous weeks from his scheduled matches against Drew, so Adam Pearce made sure that this did not happen this week and hence announced a Steel-Cage match for this week’s show. This was a good back-and-forth match which McIntyre won by putting Zayn to sleep through his Claymore Kick. McIntyre celebrated with his sword after the match at the top of the cage which was a real cool-looking moment.

In a Happy Talk segment, Madcap Moss attacked Corbin after entering the ring as the person who Corbin thought was a worker carrying Sledgehammer for him destroy Moss’ Andre the Giant Memorial Trophy. Corbin had to escape the ring due to the beatdown Moss gave to him.

In an Intercontinental Title defense, Ricochet defeated Shanky through a roll-up. After the match Shanky looked furious and walked away from his partner, Jinder Mahal.

There was contract signing for the Wrestlemania Backlash Tag Team Titles Unification match between The Usos and The RK-Bro. During the signing, Orton called Uso a bi*** which enraged them leading to an all-out brawl between the two teams which brought the WWE Undisputed Champion, Roman Reigns down to the ring but his music distracted Orton and Riddle. Next, Drew McIntyre came to rescue of the Raw Tag Team Champions, attacking Reigns too. McIntyre, Orton and Riddle stood tall in the ring at last. Moments after it, the Tag Team Title unification match was changed to a 6 man tag-team match featuring Roman Reigns and The Usos Vs. Drew McIntyre and The RK-Bro.

In the main event, there was a beat the clock challenge between Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey.

Naomi rolled up Shayna Baszler in a match to pick up the victory. Naomi and Sasha will defend their Women’s Tag Team Championships against Baszler and Natalya in 2 weeks on Smackdown.

First, Rousey faced Shotzi and defeated her in 1:41 seconds. So the time for Charlotte to won was 1:40 seconds. Charlotte faced Aliyah but she failed to defend her under 1:40.

Rousey won the Beat-The-Clock challenge, after the match an enraged Charlotte attacked Drew Gulak once again who was sitting in the time keepers area.
