LA Knight has been the hottest thing in WWE for two months now. There were constant talks about his impressive talents, which gave him the popularity to become the top merchandise seller in July. Considering Knight’s increasing popularity, he also managed to win the Slim Jim Battle Royal at SummerSlam. But the 40-year-old recently recalled a weird time in his NXT run when he demanded to get fired from the company if he did not get popular at a certain time.
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, LA reminded everyone of his run in NXT back in February 2021. In his first few days in the company, he demanded that WWE fire him if he did not get heavy reactions from the crowd within three months. Knight added the reason, “That’s how confident I was that just in a short amount of time.”
LA then made it happen with his hard-hitting charisma and impressive mic skills. His heel gimmick was praised by the developmental brand and resulted in his Million Dollar Championship victory shortly after his debut. Thus, it has always been easy for The Megastar to capitalize on the audience’s reactions to him. While the crowd’s support has made him the fan favorite, he can get a serious push in the coming future.
Knight’s appearance on the main roster saw his debut as a babyface superstar with the ring name Max Dupri in early 2022. His persona saw him as the manager of his stable, Knight Model Management. The faction had Maca and Mansoor, collectively known as Maximum Male Models. The stable then saw the addition of Maxxine Dupri, who worked as his kayfabe sister. But this idea was then dropped in September of that year, which saw the return of his LA Knight persona.

Is LA Knight a babyface or a heel?
LA Knight is known for his charismatic presence and stunning mic skills. Showing a resemblance to aspects of The Rock, he has become one of the most fan-favorite superstars in all of WWE. And The Megastar has been receiving massive reactions from the crowd like a babyface.
But it is not the whole truth, as his persona is still believed to be a heelish one considering his unchanged behavior. His character has been the same even after the boom of his fandom. There was no particular moment that transformed him into a babyface and made him leave his heel persona in a match.
It can be said that Knight experiences babyface reactions to his heelish gimmick. As he exists in both kinds of characters, WWE can be seen turning him into a babyface soon. Nevertheless, his Battle Royal victory at SummerSlam could be a sign of his upcoming push in the company.
