Edge and Damien Priest main evented on RAW this week and after the programming went off air, Edge addressed the WWE Universe and spoke about his retirement. He said that he is looking at the calendar and usually WWE comes to Canada in August and so the next August he plans on seeing each and every member again. He then said that he and the WWE Universe would say goodbye to each other on that night, indicating that he would be retiring next year. The Rated R Superstar then stated that this is the perfect place for him to do it.

Edge had retired in 2011 due to a neck injury but was cleared to wrestle in 2019, which he had not expected. According to former WWE writer Freddie Prinze Jr., he really created a plot for Edge in which he had to relinquish the championship because he had retired, and it was a spooky coincidence that it also occurred to him in real life. Christian was going to go heel and make fun of the neck injury of the Rated R Superstar.

After his successful defense of the World Heavyweight Championship against Alberto Del Rio at the WrestleMania 27, Edge would vacate the title due to a real life, life threatening Neck injury. The title was put on line at Extreme Rules 2011 and Edge’s best friend Christian Cage defeated Alberto Del Rio to win the World Heavyweight Championship for the first time in his career.

“I actually wrote the story for Edge that he ended up having to pull out of because he retired. We wrote this whole thing where, and it was creepy because it was kind of actually what happened to him. He wanted to get the belt on Christian, and Christian was gonna turn on Edge. [He was going to] just for weeks, smash him. It was going to be like when Dave Chappelle spoofed Sesame Street. He was going to do something like that, and they were gonna spell the word spine and what each letter stood for. Just mock what he did to this dude’s neck. It was this whole thing.”

According to Meltzer, the reaction from the crowd was huge after Beth saved her husband and this sure is a build up to something. He stated that at the Clash of the Castle it’s going to be Beth Phoenix, Edge and Rey Mysterio vs Rhea Ripley, Finn Balor and Damien Priest.
