The Von Erich family is one of the most controversial names in professional wrestling. Having a curse on the family, Von Erich were all wrestlers but suffered tragic deaths in a short period. The story of this disheartening incident was brought to the screen by A24’s sports drama, The Iron Claw.
Zac Efron leads the cast with his portrayal of Kevin Von Erich, the only living son of Fritz Von Erich. Jeremy Allen White plays Kerry Von Erich, the child who left the world very last after attempting suicide. The Iron Claw is directed by Sean Durkin, with A24 distribution pushing the film to its maximum extent. The movie will hit theaters on December 22, 2023, but the premieres in Dallas and Los Angeles have seen first-hand feedback.
This Sunday at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, The Iron Claw’s critics screening garnered positive reviews. Many critics described it as an emotional ride, taking viewers through the tragic life of Von Erich and making everyone sob. The consistent efforts of Efron in bulking also looked incredible on the big screen, with added charm.
The family was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2009 and received posthumous respect. Fritz’s five of the six children took up wrestling but did not contribute much to the industry due to their shorter span of life. David, Kerry, Mike, and Chris unfortunately lost their lives in their twenties and early thirties.
The Iron Claw receives positive first reactions after the premiere
The Iron Claw is one of the most anticipated sports dramas of the year that will hit theaters next month. Telling the devastating story of Von Erich, The Iron Claw premiered in Dallas and Los Angeles for the first time. The reviews have been positive and have praised the emotions it displays on the 70mm.
Along with the ensemble cast of Zac Efron, Jeremy Allen White, and many others, popular wrestlers are also a part of the sports drama. AEW World Champion MJF plays the role of Lance Von Erich, who has no blood relations with the family. And former WWE star Chavo Guerrero plays The Sheik.
