CM Punk explains how Brodie Lee’s unfortunate passing led him to choose AEW over WWE

Punk recently signed with AEW
CM Punk, one of the biggest Superstars in the history of professional wrestling, made his much-awaited return to the business after years of inactivity. But he made his return to the business with WWE’s biggest rival – All Elite Wrestling.
Considering Punk’s relation with WWE, it was quite unlikely that he would return for them. But he had some specific reasons for joining AEW. Punk recently appeared for an interview with SportsNation. One of the first things he was asked about was why he chose AEW over WWE.
“It kind of helped breathe life back into my love of professional wrestling. I see this young upstart company that’s full of, what I call, punk rock youthful exuberance – rough around the edges but eager to learn and soak up everything possibly can. Its new and its exciting. One of the big things that made consider going there was, unfortunately, we, the wrestling world lost Brodie Lee,” mentioned Punk. He even went on to describe that how AEW comes together as a company.
“His sickness and everything that came with it was known in the company, but they kept it so secret. The wrestler will tell you that all the boys were a big family – we care about each other and the wrestling business. None of that is entirely true. But to see everyone in the company band together, just to keep the secret about somebody’s health. I was blown away by that it wasn’t plastered all over every single website and it was kept a secret. And that made me go – Oh there’s something in that locker room,” he continued.
CM Punk returned during an AEW show in Chicago

AEW had never exactly advertised the return the CM Punk. The event was held in Punk’s hometown Chicago and smartly named – “The First Dance”. The show was sold out in 4 minutes.
One of the glaring differences between WWE and AEW was evident in CM Punk’s first promo itself. As soon as Punk started speaking, the first thing he did was to elevate the younger talent on the show. Where as legends return to WWE to always feud against the top, established main-eventers.
