WWE planning a first-time-ever match for CM Punk at this year’s Survivor Series: Reports
After coming back from a 6-month injury setback, CM Punk is just about beginning to find his footing once again in WWE.

This past weekend in Germany, CM Punk picked up his first WWE singles win in over a decade. He outwrestled Drew McIntyre in a grueling strap match at Bash in Berlin. Upon being asked what’s next for him, Punk told Cathy Kelley that he was done with McIntyre and would move on to bigger and better things. The Second City Saint outright declared his intentions of chasing the world title.
And ask, shall you receive? It seems like it. As per Viper Reports of PWN, CM Punk vs. Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship is one of the few options on the table under consideration for Survivor Series. It’s not locked in at this point; however, it’s in the pipeline. It remains to be seen whether it gets an official nod or not. Nonetheless, if it happens, Punk vs. Gunther would be a first-time-ever matchup.
The Ring General registered one of the biggest wins of his career when he choked out Randy Orton to retain his title at Bash in Berlin. The Viper’s Hall of Fame resume wasn’t enough to batter Gunther mentally. In a match that lasted over half an hour, the Austrian put the 14-time World Champion to sleep. The Imperium leader will now look down the barrel to see if there’s anyone who dares to cross paths with him.
As mentioned above, CM Punk is expected to ruffle the champion’s bubble down the road. It’s been quite a while since The Best in the World last held the world title in WWE. Standing in his late 40s, the Chicagoan has already silenced his naysayers who claimed he’s run out of steam. It’d be interesting to see if Punk has enough left to give Gunther a run for his money.
CM Punk may have to wait to taste gold in WWE
As exciting of a prospect it is to envision CM Punk going after the top prize in WWE once again, he may have to clear some due bills. The way he left Drew McIntyre’s carcass begging for life at Bash in Berlin would’ve definitely tainted the Scot.
And he might have vengeance in mind. Which brings the conversation back to square one that Punk isn’t actually done with Drew. They’re reportedly set for a third encounter in what has been a tumultuous rivalry over the past few months.
The two men are tied at 1-1, with McIntyre owning the night at SummerSlam and Punk making amends for that in Berlin. The decisive showdown is expected to be the most unsettling chapter in their saga, with Hell in a Cell madness awaiting the culmination at Bad Blood.
